How to setup a POP/IMAP e-mail account in Microsoft Outlook 2013

This tutorial assumes you’ve already created your new email account in SiteAdmin or cPanel.

Secure SSL/TLS IMAP Settings are Recommended

Authentication is required for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP.


-  IMAP email access coordinates between the server and your mail application. Messages that have been read/deleted/replied to will show up as such, both on the server and in the mail application.
-  POP3 does not coordinate with the server. Messages marked as read/deleted/replied to in the mail application will not show up as such on the server. This means that future mail downloads with POP3 will show all messages as unread.
-  Outgoing mail is sent using SMTP.
-  We recommend using IMAP over SSL/TLS since it provides increased security for your interactions with the remote mail server.

Now let’s learn how to setup that new email account in Outlook 2013, so you’ll be able to send and receive emails to and from that new email account.

1) Open Outlook

2) Click File

4) Click Manual setup or additional server types, then click next

5) Click POP or IMAP, then click Next

6) Enter your name

7) Enter your email address

8) Select the account type you wish to use. We will be using IMAP for this demo and we actually prefer this type of connection

9) Enter the incoming and outgoing mail servers. On a typical setup, this is where would be replaced with your actual domain name.

10) Enter your email address into the User Name field

11) Enter your password

12) Click More Settings

13) Click the Outgoing Server tab

14) Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication, then click Advanced

14) Change Use the following type of encryption connection for both Incomming and Outgoing server, match the numbers shown below, then click OK
